I was amazing
when I changed my own brake fluid
it reminded me of when I was poor
and had pride in all these survival skills
and thought I could do anything
when I knew how to dodge
fancy cheek kisses at parties
because no one really did that in my life til now
they did other dodgy stuff
and now I’m so boring
I go to the lake and I take off my clothes
only to leave on other clothes
the kind of mom
who teaches her kids to swear
but also to be nice to strangers
and don’t ever fucking litter
but if you really have to pee
and there is no rest stop
it’s okay to go on the side of the road
in the weeds just past the shoulder
among the bare stems and seedheads.
