NER Ulysses Reading Series: National Poetry Month Edition - April 17, 7 PM, Humanities House, Middlebury College

Manuela, there’s a boat at the dock
home to a rabbit, its hutch
full of heat and sweet straw

I’m lying in a house, warm enough
Rock and roll is here to stay
says Big Star over the current

Here to stay

Sun pools slowly
like milk on the panes
of your cold frame

I used to always think about stars
Now I walk out at night
to news of more people dying

Air folds in and around
my listing body

I hold a heart full of friends
I won’t see for years

Manuela, when you stand at a dock
does the sweet sound hold you there

Your body a star full of sky

The sweet sound
of everything breathing
the sweet sound
of everything sound
